You can own all the right products and still not see results if you are using them in the wrong order. The good news is the rule is simple once you know it, and getting it right means each step actually earns its place. Here is how I lay it out for my clients.
The golden rule
Apply your products from thinnest to thickest. Light, watery serums go on first so they can sink in, and richer creams go on last to seal everything in. Get that principle and you will rarely go wrong.
Your morning routine
- Cleanse to start with a fresh base.
- Serum, your treatment step, such as a vitamin C for brightness or a hydrating serum.
- Eye cream, if you use one.
- Moisturiser to hydrate and protect.
- SPF, always the last step, every single morning. Meso Shield 50 is my everyday pick.
Your evening routine
- Cleanse, twice if you have worn makeup or SPF, to properly clear the day away.
- Treatment, this is where actives like retinol or an exfoliating serum go, a few nights a week.
- Serum, a hydrating or repairing one such as Hyaluronic B5.
- Moisturiser, and something a little richer at night is lovely, like my Ceramide Moisturiser.
A few honest pointers
Give each layer a moment to absorb before the next. Do not pile on lots of strong actives in one go, it tends to irritate rather than help. And if it all feels like too much, that is exactly why I built my ready made routines, everything in the right order with none of the thinking.
